The 2009 Tour De France - Tableau Style

132525841_6eab4dea95_mLast weekend I spend a few hours analyzing the results for the 2009 Tour De France.  I was pulling for Lance Armstrong (the old guy) to win number 8.

Alas, that wasn’t to be.  I do think it’s amazing that a 36 year old guy who had been out of the sport for almost 4 years managed to finish a very competitive 3rd.

I’ve attached the Tableau packaged workbook with all of the results.

Why am I doing this?

I was inspired to quit a job and an industry that I had worked in for over 20 years to work in the technology field and promote data visualization.

My experience at the first Tableau User Conference in July of 2008 really motivated me to make this career change.  While having a very interesting and fulfilling job before I realized that there was a common theme every job responsibility or project I had to manage.

I wanted the data first.
